Painting the cabinetry is a straightforward and direct thanks to finish the decoration of your bathroom, or to freshen or change the advent of an already-decorated bathroom. Sanding is usually a preliminary step in most paint jobs, and on this instance the sanding process has two complicating factors. First, most toilet cabinets have fine detailing or trim at the doors. Second, if the cupboard has an old paint job, it ought to be removed first.
Step 1
Unscrew the hinges from the cupboard doors, in addition to any knobs or handles. If you?re painting the internal of the cupboards, remove any shelves and unscrew the shelf brackets besides.
Step 2
Remove any existing paint job from cabinet doors which have detailing or trim because of a chemical stripper. Brush the stripper at the side of the door with the detailing/trim, allow time for it to work as directed, and scrape the resulting goop off the door. If the cupboard door has no trim or detailing, skip to Step 3. If the cupboard has no old paint on it in any respect, skip to Step 4.
Step 3
Sand off old paint from the flat surfaces of the cupboard door, interior and shelves as necessary. Use a handheld rotary tool fitted with a 60-grit sanding disc to take away the paint, after which smooth out the resulting rough surface by switching to a 120-grit sanding disc. Sanding the internal corners of the cupboard may require using an oscillating tool fitted with wood sandpaper accessories.
Step 4
Prepare the cabinet?s wood surfaces for a brand new coat of paint by sanding with fine-grit sandpaper. Fit the hand held rotary tool with a 240-grit sanding disc for sanding the entire flat surfaces, and sand any trim or detailing by hand with 180- to 240-grit sandpaper.
