Jim Young, chairman of Union Pacific,?was conferred a Beacon of Ethics? Award on Monday morning, March 4, 2013 by Business Ethics Alliance executive director, Dr. Beverly Kracher, during a private ceremony held at Union Pacific.
This award is bestowed upon Young based on his distinguished leadership, consistent message of respecting employees and focusing on customer engagement. ?Mr. Young?s example of profits with integrity provides a role model for our entire business and civic community ? from students and young professionals to seasoned executives,? said Kracher.
The Beacon of Ethics? Award is bestowed on individuals who have exhibited a life-long dedication to integrity and civic responsibility while guiding and leading others toward ethical excellence. Since its inception in the fall of 2009, the Beacon of Ethics? Award has been bestowed upon such dignitaries as:
- William Bennett, former U.S. Secretary of Education and editor of ?The Book of Virtue?
- Madeleine Albright, former U.S. Secretary of State, for her dedication to democracy and human rights
- Muhammad Yunus, Nobel Peace Prize Winner, Founder of the Grameen Bank and the global microfinance movement
- Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland, for her inclusive leadership, demonstrated moral courage and dedication to human rights
- Reuben Mark, former Chair and CEO of Colgate-Palmolive, for his impact on building a model for global corporate culture centered on ethics.
